Hi everyone,

I have had the Linksys BEFSR41 version 2 for about two years now. Since I
got it I have used it in conjunction with a motorola surfboard 4100 cable
modem. My service is provided through Charter Communications. Two days ago
my connection quit working so I went into the router settings to see what
the problem was. Everything was fine except my wan ip
shockhad changed to 0.0.0.0. I attempted to release/renew several times
with no luck, the ip stayed 0.0.0.0. I disconnected the cable from the
router and connected the cable modem directly to one of my pc's. I
released/renewed the ip on my pc and the connection worked fine. Obviously,
there is something wrong with my router. I upgraded the firmware to 1.45
but my router still won't receive an IP address from the modem. All the
lights on the router appear to be working fine when things are hooked up, it
is just that I can no longer accept the WAN IP. Nothing has changed
hardware wise before and after the problems have started. Also, the DHCP
server continues to work so when my pcs are hooked to their router they
still get assigned appropriate address. Any help greatly appreciated!

Put the router back in service, connect the wall wart power supply, then press
and hold the Reset button for 60 seconds to do a "return to factory defaults"
operation. (Note that this means the admin account will return to default
settings, and the router's LAN address will go back to the factory default).

If the router still can't gain a wan address via DHCP, it may well be toast...
